Will You Answer My Question?

•December 14, 2011 • 3 Comments

I’m interested in getting as many answers as I possibly can to the following question.  Please repost and share this post so I can get as many answers as possible.

In your opinion, what is the #1 thing stopping people from coming to church?  Either for a church service, concert, special program, or any other event.

Again…please repost this to help me gain as much information as possible.

Keep Your Head on a Swivel!

•December 13, 2011 • 1 Comment

Any ex-football players should be able to tell you what the title of this post means but for those who have no clue what I’m talking about let me explain.  To keep your head on a swivel means to always be looking for someone who will try to hit you.  On defense you were always on the look out for the ball or for someone trying to keep you from getting to the ball.  I’ll never forget the time I forgot to keep my head on a swivel while playing on a kickoff team.  I got blindsided so hard that I was seeing stars and ended up walking to the wrong side of the field after the play.  For whatever reason this phrase always stuck with me…even years after playing my last down of football in high school.

Nowadays i use this phrase in a spiritual sense.  As a Christian you should always keep their head on a swivel being on the look out for the enemy trying to take you out.  Too often well-meaning Christians get blindsided by sin and the Devil uses that to discredit not only them but also their God.

What do you need to be on the lookout for?  What sin could easily take you down?  Be on the lookout and run away as far as you can from the appearance of Evil.  “Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1 Thess 5:22”  We as believers are living our lives on display for the World to see and the moment we give into the appearance of evil the World takes note.

KEEP YOUR HEAD ON A SWIVEL!  Don’t let yourself get blindsided by the Devil.  Keep your testimony straight and God’s name clear!

Hate Tim Tebow?

•December 12, 2011 • 1 Comment

If your answer to taht question is yes then quite frankly…I’m not surprised.  Tebow is a man who loves God more than anything else in the whole world.  Scripture is very clear:

1 John 3:13 “Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.”

So when i turn on the TV and people are tearing Tim Tebow apart on so many different levels I’m actually more encouraged than discouraged.  Here’s why…Tebow is doing the right thing!  He is taking a stand against all odds and finding success!

I love that the world doesnt know how to deal with a guy that has this genuine and outspoken of a faith.  If only we as Christians did a better ob of living out our faith in the same manner the world would be as surprised as they are by Tim.  Here is where the challenge comes in…Dont just look at Time Tebow in amazment but do what he is doing…TURN THE WORLD UPSIDE DOWN FOR CHRIST!!

Keep up the good work Tim Tebow…I hope you continue winning in spite of your enemies!

Marathon Training Update

•December 10, 2011 • Leave a Comment

For those of you who don’t know or are new to the blog I’m training for one of the hardest things I have ever done before. In 28 weeks I’ll be running in the mayors midnight sun marathon up here in Anchorage AK. If you have never met me in person let me explain something…IM NOT BUILT FOR ENDURANCE!! 6’7″ 245lbs is not supposed to run 26.2 miles in one shot. I am determined to do this and do it well! Anyone who wishes to join me is more than welcome to jump on board!

The training has been going well so far…I’m in the pre training phase which is just getting my lungs and legs ready for the actual training. It’s amazing how much healthier I feel when I am consistently running.

Since I’m running this thing anyway I figured I could use it as an opportunity to raise some money for Amanda and I’s adoption. We need to raise approx $20000 or so. Would you consider donating towards this?

You can donate via Paypal by clicking here.

Have a blessed day!!

Kids and Christmas

•December 9, 2011 • 2 Comments

As I’ve said before I LOVE CHRISTMAS!  I love everything about Christmas.  My kids have followed suit and also love Christmas.  My wife and I decided early on in our lives as parents that we would not push the Santa Claus myth on our kids.  It’s not that we hate Santa…we just really had a hard time justifying lying to our children.  So we’ve always been very honest with our kids…We’ve told them about the factual Saint Nicholas.  Gavin to this day will tell you that Santa was a real guy who loved people who like Jesus loved people.
Please dont take this as me condemning all who “do Santa” with their kids…to each his own but also consider sahring the real story with your kids.  If you need help sharing the real story there are alot of resources out there.  Veggie Tales has done a cartoon on Saint Nicholas and What’s In The Bible has created a Christmas special called “Why it’s called Christmas”.  I highly recommend the later!  Excellant information done in a fun way!  They never demonize Santa…they just tell the real story.  Check it out!

Making Your Marriage Work

•December 8, 2011 • 1 Comment

I’m sitting here tonight heartbroken for a couple that have been friends of ours and their marriage is on the verge of ending.  It pains me to see two people who both have done so much for the kingdom of God to head down the road of divorce because of sin and stubbornness in their lives.

This post is in no way me saying that I know how to make a marriage work perfectly but I do know one thing…God give us a command in Scripture:

Ephesians 5:22-33

22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

As a married couple there needs to be two major things that are going on constantly…LOVE AND RESPECT.  Husbands we are to love our wives like Christ Loves the church.  That’s not just a lovey dovey love…we are talking a sacrificial love…COMPASSION…a level of love that draws out action!  Our wives need to know that we love them…its one thing to say it and another to show her.  Treat her right, do chores around the house for her, provide for her needs, give her your time, dont make her share you with other women, LOVE HER!!!

Women, obey your husbands or RESPECT THEM just as the church obeys Christ.  A man needs to know that he is respected by his wife.  Honor him…go out of your way to give him things that he desires.  Make him feel like he is the king of his little world!

Both of these things will feed on one another.  The more the husband shows his love to his wife the more respect that the wife will show the husband which leads to even more love and more respect…You get where I’m going with this?

In short…Husbands…LOVE!!!  Wives….RESPECT/OBEY! Don’t let the Devil get a stronghold in your marriage.

Christmas Time

•December 6, 2011 • Leave a Comment

I absolutely love Christmas time!  I love everything about it…the food…the family…the lights…the trees…the nativity scenes…and the music.  Christmas music has just a certain flare to it!  I’m a huge fan of the classics, Silent Night, O Holy Night, O come O Come Emmanuel, etc.  I REALLY love when people do the classics in “new” ways.  I’m not talking club remixes or Justin Beibering Silent night.  I’m talking good COVERS…slight changes but still the original song.  The two that have been in full rotation on my computer lately are The Little Drummer Boy by The Almost and Oh Holy Night by Shane and Shane.  SOOO GOOD!  I’ve posted the videos below. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
